Blanching preps shrimp for dishes, eases peeling, and locks in flavor.
Prepare your shrimp, a pot of water, a colander, and a bowl of ice water.
03
Bring a pot of water to a rolling boil over high heat.
Add salt, lemon slices, or herbs to the boiling water for additional flavor.
05
Carefully add the shrimp to the boiling water and cook for 1-2 minutes
Immediately after cooking, transfer the shrimp to a bowl of ice water to stop them from overcooking
07
Look for a pink and opaque color - a sign the shrimp are cooked through, but still tender.
After a few minutes in the ice bath, drain the shrimp and pat them dry with paper towels.
09
Use blanched shrimp immediately in salads, stir-fries, pastas, or for future recipe preparations
Blanched shrimp peel more easily than uncooked shrimp due to loosened shells.
