Fried Shrimp – What You’ll Need

Shrimp: I recommend medium to large-sized shrimp, peeled and deveined for easy eating. Fresh is fantastic, but high-quality frozen works just as well (just make sure to thaw it fully!)

Flour: All-purpose flour is our trusty base for that crave-worthy coating.

Spices: A simple combo of salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika is classic for a reason.

Eggs: These are the key to ensuring our coating sticks to the shrimp.

Panko Breadcrumbs: These Japanese-style breadcrumbs are the secret to the ultimate crunch!

Oil for frying: A neutral-flavored oil like vegetable or canola is perfect.

  • Use a thermometer: For foolproof doneness, shrimp should reach an internal temperature of 145°F.
  • Flavor boost: Add a pinch of cayenne to the spice mix for a little kick!

Recipe Variations

  • Spicy: Add cayenne pepper and a drizzle of hot sauce.

Best Fried Shrimp – Recipe FAQs

Can I use a different type of breadcrumb?

Yes, but panko is king for maximum crispiness. Traditional breadcrumbs are fine, but may be less crunchy.

Absolutely! Preheat your air fryer to 400°F. Lightly spray breaded shrimp with oil and cook in batches for 8-10 minutes, flipping halfway.

How do I know the shrimp is cooked?

Cooked shrimp turns opaque and forms a slight “C” shape.

  1. Well, I thought it quite interesting to put the shrimp in the egg/milk wash, then drain them and add the drained shrimp to the panko. But the panko doesn’t stick to the shrimp with this method. So I rinsed off the shrimp and started over dipping the shrimp in flour then egg then panko. Voila!
