Shrimp Lo Mein – Tips and Tricks

Prep is key: Have all your ingredients chopped and prepped before you heat the wok. Stir-fries cook fast, so speed is essential!

High heat, happy wok: Get your wok or large skillet nice and hot with oil before adding your ingredients. This ensures even cooking and prevents sticking.

Don’t overcrowd the pan: Cook your ingredients in batches to avoid lowering the temperature and ending up with steamed vegetables instead of beautifully stir-fried goodness.

Shrimp Lo Mein Variations

Veggie Delight: Swap the shrimp for your favorite vegetables like broccoli, carrots, or snow peas for a vegetarian version.

Protein Powerhouse: Feeling extra hungry? Add chicken, tofu, or another protein of your choice.

Spicy Lo Mein: Love a kick? Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or Sriracha sauce to the stir-fry for a touch of heat.

Recipe FAQs

What kind of noodles should I use?

Traditionally, lo mein uses egg noodles. You can find fresh or dried egg noodles in most grocery stores. If you can’t find them, substitute with chow mein noodles or even spaghetti in a pinch!

How do I cook the noodles to prevent mush?

The key is to cook them al dente, meaning they should be tender but still have a bit of a bite. Follow the package instructions for cooking time, and rinse them under cold water to stop the cooking process.
